    In Defense of YA

    Too light, too shallow, too this or too that. YA literature – like Science Fiction and Fantasy - has joined the ranks of genres that often include explanations such as “It’s good…for a YA book,” by those new to it. But for those in the know YA is just as complex, dark, emotional and beautifully written as any other category of literature.

    Join authors Seth Fishman (The Well’s End), Lydia Kang (Control), April Genevieve Tucholke (Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea), Kendare Blake (Antigoddess) and E.C. Blake (Masks) as they discuss the appeal of YA (whether it be SF/F, Horror or Dystopian YA) and why it rules the school. 

    Geek Geek Revolution

    GEEK GEEK REVOLUTION is a no-holds-barred geek culture game show featuring six science fiction/fantasy authors competing for the chance to be TOP GEEK. In addition the audience members will be asked to 'write-in' questions in hopes of stumping the authors and winning a prize pack of books. Hold onto your hats, nerf herders, this might get ugly. Featuring authors: Marjorie Liu, Mark Frost, Seth Fishman (The Well’s End), Patrick Rothfuss (Kingkiller Chronicles), Lydia Kang (Control) and Kevin Hearne (Iron Druid Chronicles).

Our panel participants are the creators that have made a more diverse world with their novels. Join authors Gene Luen Yang (The Shadow Hero), Josephine Angelini (Trial by Fire),Sherri L. Smith (Orleans), Adele Griffin (The Unfinished Life of Addison Stone), Greg Weisman (Spirits of Ash and Foam: A Rain of the Ghosts Novel), and Lydia Kang (Control) as moderator David Mariotte of Mysterious Galaxy leads the discussion of what is "diversity" in genre writing, what it looks like, and why it is important!
