Back from Seoul! The two big reasons we went were because three out id the five in my family have never been to Korea, and my next YA book takes place in a summer language program like Yonsei University’s (I went there as did my middle kiddo!). So, I had some research to do. Fun research!

We had such a full week that I was frozen with indecision on how to share these pictures, so we’re going mostly by timeline.

Most of these pictures are from Hongdae, near Yonsei University (there is a nighttime scene in my book that takes place in Hongdae with the pink painted streets). We stayed nearby in the Yeonnam neighborhood where we had an Airbnb.

The food was great every day! The first night we went to a bbq place that was all about the pork belly and kimchi. And every time we went into a convenience store like GS25 or 7-11, there was always going to be a wall of meat on a stick 😆 I think we got convenience store snacks every day, the were so good! #korea #seoul #hongdae

Nine photos can’t really encompass this dizzying year. Somewhere after sixteen trips by September (which meant about 75+ flights) I actually finally lost count of how many times I flew this year. London twice, Boston twice, Baltimore four times maybe, Connecticut, New York, Dallas, Tokyo, Seoul, Traverse City, Portland, the other Portland, and California. Pretty sure I forgot a couple.

I released several Star Wars short stories in Star Wars Insider magazine, and celebrated two new books: K-Jane and Pseudoscience. Announced a new nonfiction book on fragrance with Chronicle Books. Published a poem in the Annals of Internal Medicine. Got my very first starred review with Kirkus Reviews and K-Jane ended up on their best-of year list, too.

I went to Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, got to visit the LucasFilm offices in San Francisco, and visited the famed Skywalker Ranch with the other Luminous authors of the High Republic. Incredible and unforgettable.

There were so many friends to hug, so many family moments, and plenty of quiet beautiful bits of very ordinary days that were precious to me. Lots of patient care moments to celebrate on the medical side of things, but occasionally there were sad days too, as a doctor. It comes with the territory. I’m still teaching medical students and doing school visits to support science education when I can.

I am taking a breath at the moment, but am ready for 2026.

Thank you all, friends and family, who have tolerated my silly social media life and explorations here. I appreciate you. I do.
